The first work to be considered an opera was Jacopo Peri’s Dafne in 1579. In 1604 Monteverdi produced his first opera, The Tempest, however this has been lost to the mists of time. In 1607 l’Orfeo premiered in Mantua to critical acclaim and remains the earliest opera still regularly performed today.
The Pretoria concert was a resounding success leaving the audience profoundly moved:
“It’s a musical experience. Something that people of all ages need to go through.” – Paul
“What a treat we had this afternoon. Beautiful ensemble, lovely balanced sound, and soaring soloists.” – Antony
“I was taken away by the quality and professional way the whole program was presented.” – Gerhard
