💚 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦?
Paganism is the umbrella term for the various traditions and denominations of Pre-Christian, European, nature-centred spiritual paths . The word Pagan comes from the Latin word “Pagani” – “one who dwells in the countryside”. It does not mean “non-believer”, bur rather it is the term used to describe the ancestral indigenous religions from our Celtic, Germanic, Mediterranean, and Slavic homelands. Paganism (and its various traditions) is a legally-recognised religion in South Africa, has church status, and is protected by our constitution. Our clergy are also ordained to perform legal marriages and rites of passage.
⭐ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐲?
PFD began in the early 2000’s to honour the South African right to practice freedom of religion – not just Pagan religions, but ALL positive, life-affirming religions . At PFD we honour all minority spiritual paths, and come together in a safe, inclusive community to honour the Divine in all His/Her/Its names and expressions – and most especially through a Pagan lens. PFD happens in nearly every province in SA, and usually falls on the weekend closest to the national holiday, Freedom Day.
🎪 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐅𝐃 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔:
The event opens at 10:00, and anyone who wishes to gather for the Opening Ceremony can join in at 10:30.
Throughout the day there will be magical vendors, spiritual healers, psychic readers, talks, and other family-friendly activities . Kids are welcome. There will be food and drink vendors as well. R50 entrance gives you all-day access.
💎 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭:
All remaining profits of this event are split between the venue ( Sanctuary of Light Spiritualist Church ) and the South African Pagan Council (SAPC) . Donations can also be offered to our Adopt a Tree Programme – a local Pagan community initiative that raises money to adopt, and re-plant, trees throughout the Helderberg.
