World Goth Day ’24 Cape Town – The Warehouse

8:00 am

World Goth Day is an international event that kicked off a few years back, designating May 22 as the day to embrace your inner Goth (We party on Sat the 25th this year – the 15th year we are part of this celebration). It all started in the UK in 2009 and went global in 2010. This year, we’re venturing into uncharted territory.
We’re sticking to the same venue for the third consecutive year, and why, you ask? Simply put, because the venue is incredibly awesome. Yes, you’ve got it right—it’s THE WAREHOUSE. For + – 364 days of the year, it’s just your regular working warehouse. But for one day (okay, let’s say roughly three, considering the setup and breakdown), we morph it into a legit warehouse club.
This project is an absolute labour of love, driven by a small group of close friends. We’ve been at it from the beginning, with no outside sponsorship or budget (But a word of thanks to BOTHNERS for helping out Terminatryx with their tech requirements). It’s all fueled by our passion for this incredibly beautiful scene, and ultimately, the love of music.
Due to logistical challenges and bureaucratic hoops, the event will once again be a BYOB (bring your own booze) affair. This setup has proven successful in the past two years. We’re keeping the tradition alive with DJs spinning the best in dark alternative (too many styles to mention), and a live band, Terminatryx, bringing you some seriously gothic vibes. Wolf going all out with the decor, killer transformation via J, and more.
Terminatryx, formed in 2002, is a female-fronted industrial-metal band with strong gothic undertones (they’ve promised us a very gothic-inspired set for WGD). They’ve released multiple albums, been remixed by some prominent names, and featured on numerous compilations. Terminatryx has performed live from Cape Town to Johannesburg and Germany, and supported bands like Ministry and VNV Nation.
On the decks, we’ll have Myster-I (the mastermind behind Gothic the Resurrection), Neverwhere (known for Red Room and Acretongue), Reanimator (a Cape Town legend associated with Blood Dolls Society, Sanctuary Sessions, and numerous clubs), and Princess Minstrel (the creator of Gotham the entity/World Goth Day Cape Town/Gotham, and residencies at several other clubs).
If you thought the previous 2 editions of THE WAREHOUSE was cool, this one is gonna be on another level.
Entry fee is R100, cash or card at the door.
PS – To find the venue on Google Maps, search for DIMENSIONS TENTS AND STRUCTURES. It is spot on.
